Indulge in the rich, velvety goodness of homemade dark chocolate truffles. With just a handful of ingredients, you can create a luxurious dessert that melts in your mouth and impresses everyone. Perfect for special occasions or a sweet treat at home!

Ingredients

  • 8 oz (227g) high-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa), chopped
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Cocoa powder, for dusting
  • Optional: crushed nuts, sprinkles, or sea salt for topping

Instructions

Start by preparing your workspace. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to place the truffles once formed.

In a small saucepan over medium heat, heat the heavy cream until it begins to simmer. Make sure to keep an eye on it to prevent boiling over.

Once the cream is simmering, remove it from the heat and add the chopped dark chocolate. Let it sit for a couple of minutes to soften the chocolate.

After a few minutes, add the vanilla extract. Stir gently with a whisk or spatula until the mixture is smooth and glossy. The chocolate should be fully melted and combined with the cream.

Transfer the chocolate ganache to a bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for about 1-2 hours, or until it is firm enough to handle.

Once the ganache is set, use a small cookie scoop or your hands to portion out the chocolate. Roll each portion between your palms to form a smooth ball.

Next, roll each truffle in cocoa powder to coat. You can also experiment with rolling them in crushed nuts, sprinkles, or adding a sprinkle of sea salt for an extra flavor dimension.

Place the finished truffles on the prepared baking sheet. Once all are rolled and coated, refrigerate them for about 30 minutes to firm up before serving.

Enjoy your decadent dark chocolate truffles as a delightful dessert or a luxurious gift for someone special!
