This easy and delicious seeded batter bread is perfect for those who want a hearty loaf without the hassle of kneading. With minimal ingredients and maximum flavor, this recipe showcases the nutty essence of seeds while creating a moist and tender crumb.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon honey or sugar
- 2 cups buttermilk (or regular milk with 1 tablespoon vinegar added)
- 1/2 cup mixed seeds (such as sunflower, pumpkin, and sesame)
- 2 tablespoons melted butter or olive oil (optional, for a richer flavor)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
Add the honey (or sugar) and buttermilk to the dry ingredients. If using melted butter or olive oil, add it at this stage. Stir gently until just combined; do not overmix. The batter should be slightly lumpy.
Fold in the mixed seeds, reserving a few to sprinkle on top of the loaf for garnish.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle the reserved seeds on top for added texture and flavor.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Once baked, remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Enjoy this simple seeded batter bread warm, toasted, or slathered with your favorite spread!
