Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup raisins

Instructions

Start by activating the yeast. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and the yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and ground cinnamon. Mix well to combine the dry ingredients.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter and egg. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the butter and egg mixture and stir to combine.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms. Add the raisins and knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release the air. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan.

Cover the loaf with the kitchen towel again and let it rise for another 30 minutes.

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Once the dough has risen, bake it in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Slice and enjoy this simple yet flavorful raisin bread on its own or toasted with a bit of butter!
